‘Hyper Light Drifter’ special edition comes with a SNES cartridge, manual, and world map

Get ready to empty your wallets. The Hyper Light Drifter Collector’s Edition comes with a cyan “SNES cartridge,” a 24-page full-color manual, a 24-inch by 18-inch world map poster, a beautifully crafted box and a digital code for the game itself. The SNES cartridge is in quotes because it’s really just a prop and won’t actually play on your old-school Nintendo console, but it sure would look a great sitting on your shelf alongside your video game collection.

The game in question is a heartfelt tribute to 16-bit gaming which features intense action, other-worldly environments, and a captivating RPG-style storyline. Launched earlier this year, it didn’t just break its modest Kickstarter goal – it smashed it to pieces. It’s creator Alex Preston asked for a humble $27,000 and received over $645,000, meeting all of the project’s stretch goals bar one and him and his team to fully realise his original vision without any compromise. The top-down 2D action game received a very positive review from our very own Matt De Azevedo, who called it one of the best retro-inspired indie games to date, and one of the better overall indie games in recent memory.

The package courtesy the gaming memorabilia company iam8bit, is $65 and is expected to release this summer. You can pre-order it here. In addition to the Collector’s Edition, iam8bit is also selling a 4LP vinyl soundtrack and some fine art prints from the game.
