‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Finally Announced For Fall 2017

After two days of teasing images on their social media pages, Rockstar has finally announced their much anticipated sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2. In typical fashion, Rockstar didn’t use any gaming conference to make this huge announcement. Instead, they chose to announce it in their own way on their website with an accompanying press release.

According to their site, Red Dead Redemption 2 will release worldwide in Fall 2017 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Unfortunately, there is no mention of there being a PC version of the game as of right now (though it’s possible there could be one in the future). The original Red Dead Redemption was never released on PC.

The game is being developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and the original Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar says the game is “An epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland” with a “vast and atmospheric world” that “will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.” Considering the success of GTA Online, it is no surprise that Rockstar will be adding a multiplayer experience to this game as well.

“With Red Dead Redemption 2, the team is working hard to push forward our vision for interactive entertainment in a truly living world,” Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, said in a press release. ”We hope to deliver players an epic experience that builds upon everything we’ve learned making games.”

The original Red Dead Redemption was released in 2010 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to critical acclaim from both fans and critics. It is widely considered one of the best games of the last generation. In the open-world Western action game, players played as John Marston, a former outlaw who is forced by the government to hunt down his former gang in order to gain amnesty and return to his wife and son. Players were able to experience 1911’s Mexico and the western United States in a large open world. It is unclear what characters the silhouettes are, but if they are the characters from the original game it is very possible this will be a prequel.

Rockstar promises that there will be a trailer for the game on Thursday, October 20th at 11 AM EST.
