Sordid Cinema Podcast #525: ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’

This week on the Sordid Cinema Podcast, Simon, Patrick and guest Molly Faust review Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, writer-director Luc Besson’s big-budget take on everything that a 13 year-old boy would want to see in a movie. We discuss the split between creativity and formula, alternate titles that might describe the setting a bit more truthfully, and how two hot actors could have such bad chemistry. Despite the many flaws, however, we also talk about how the sincerity behind Besson’s effort delivers a certain charm that elevates Valerian above the normal assembly-line blockbuster. For all this and more, have a listen!
